WNMU Ceramic Postbaccalaureate Program

Ceramic Postbaccalaureate Program

Ceramic postbaccalaureate students at Western New Mexico University (WNMU) are given workspace and access to ceramic facilities in exchange for weekly work to help the ceramics program and studio function. Each student will participate in advanced ceramics coursework and receive weekly studio visits with faculty. Serving as a mentor to undergraduate students in an academic environment without a graduate program, postbac students are held to high expectations and receive individualized attention. This opportunity is tuition-free and requires a strong work ethic, ambition, and dedication. The duration of the postbac is concurrent with the university academic year (mid-august—early may) with opportunity for flexibility depending on an individual needs and preferences. Existing postbac students are eligible to apply for a second year.

WNMU is just outside of the 3.8 million-acre Gila National Forrest in Silver City, NM. Each summer the town and university host a CLAY Festival that features a workshop lead by some of the most influential makers in our field. The Mimbres heritage of this region also provides students with quick access to historical ceramic scholarship and boasts one of the largest collections of Mimbres pottery in the world on campus. This is a growing program and gives postbac students the space and support to move forward.
